Public Input Sought on District Boundaries
In January, the City of Santee started a process to transition from at-large elections to by-district elections.
If approved, this means voters would elect council members by districts rather than at-large or by voters citywide. The mayor would still be elected by voters citywide.
State law requires that prior to drawing any draft map(s) of possible districts, the city must hold two public hearings to receive input from the community regarding the boundaries and the composition of the districts to be established. On Jan. 24, the Council held the first of the two public hearing. A second public hearing is scheduled for February 14, 2018.
National Demographics Corporation is assisting the City in the transition process, and will provide the City Council with a presentation regarding the demographics of the city and possible composition of districts.
The city is committed to a process that takes into consideration all stakeholders. Please view the PowerPoint presentation by National Demographics Corporation and submit your comments on how the district boundaries and the composition of the districts should be established on our Survey Monkey site.
