Council Approves District Election Map
The City of Santee is a Charter City governed by a five-member City Council. Santee will hold its first district-based election on November 6, 2018. Under the new district-based election system, four (4) Council Members will be elected by district – Council Members will be required to live in the district they represent and will be elected only by the registered voters of that district. The Mayor will continue to be directly elected at-large.
Voters in Districts 1, 2 and 3 will each elect a Council Member at the November 6, 2018 election. The Council Member elected in District 3 at the 2018 election will serve an initial two-year term, meaning that District 3 will elect a Council Member again in 2020. The purpose of this initial two-year term is to change the election sequence so that beginning in 2020; two Council Members are elected every two years. Voters in District 4 will elect a Council Member at the November 2020 election, completing Santee’s transition to district representation.
