Replacing a Water Heater
If you are installing a new water heater or replacing an old one, please fill out the Permit Application Form and submit it to the Building Division in person during business hours. Water Heater permits can be approved over the counter after a short review. The current fee to for one water heater is $112.74.
When equipment replacements and repairs must be performed in an emergency situation, the permit application shall be submitted within the next two working business days to the building official.
After a Building Permit is obtained, you can schedule an inspection by calling (619) 258-4100 ext. 149, and leave a detailed message. For inspection requests received before 4 p.m., the inspection will be scheduled for the next business day, unless you request a different day in your message. Inspection requests made on Saturday and Sundays will be scheduled on the following Tuesday.
Building inspections are performed Monday through Friday, including the Friday afternoons that City Hall is closed.
