Santee Street Tree Program
Making a greener Santee one tree at a time!
Trees are a vital piece of Santee’s infrastructure contributing to energy savings, filtering stormwater runoff and enhancing property values.
Santee residents with a parkway in front of their house are eligible to participate in the Street Tree Program. The program is completely free for all qualifying Santee residents. A parkway is defined as a strip of landscaping between the sidewalk area and curb (see photo below). The City will plant and trim the approved tree at no cost to the resident; the resident just needs to water the tree.
The City will work with each resident to help select a tree that best fits the parkway width and the residents needs/desires. Our Santee Street Tree Guide lists trees that are compatible with a variety of parkway widths. The tree list has been vetted and researched by arborists and biologists to not cause damage to sidewalks, curbs and gutters all while promoting tree species diversity.
For a detailed list of possible trees depending on your parkway width, please see our Santee Street Tree Guide.
Root barriers will be installed, at no cost to the resident, if the City determines it is necessary.
If the species of tree you are interested in is not listed, we are happy to consider requests, please inform us of the type of tree you are interested in and staff will determine if the tree is suitable for the program.
To see photos and additional information about your desired tree from the tree guide, search for the tree on SelecTree.
Please Note: Not all parkways are suitable for trees.
Please contact Eric King, Parks & Landscape Supervisor at 619-258-4100 ext. 303 to inquire about participating in the program and to see if your parkway qualifies.
