Flood Zones & Drainage

Flood Zone Regulations

The City of Santee Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance defines special flood hazard areas within the City and regulates work taking place within these special flood hazard areas.

You can determine your flood zone and obtain digital copies of FIRMs by visiting FEMA FIRM Maps.

FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) publishes maps, called Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), that show flood zones. FIRMs are the result of engineering studies that are performed by engineering companies, other federal agencies, or the community and are reviewed and approved by FEMA.

New Development Requirements

In addition to the Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance and FEMA FIRM maps, the City has a San Diego River Floodplain Study that defines special flood hazard areas,  New construction should be elevated to a minimum of one-foot above the 100 year floodplain provided in this flood study.
