Department Overview

The Santee Fire Department is a full-service department responsive to the City of Santee which covers an area of 16.5 square miles and a population of approximately 60,000 residents. The City is made up of residential, commercial and industrial with a large Wildland–Urban interface. We are bordered by Mission Trails Regional Park as well as Highways 52, 67, 125. All of this creates a unique working environment.

The Department protects an extremely diverse community consisting of large areas of residential development, commercial/retail centers, office buildings, and industrial parks. Santee Fire Department protects and manages several thousand acres of wildland and wildland urban interface lands.

Services

Santee Fire Department has a ISO Rating 1, providing a variety of top-notch first responder services to the community, including:

  • Fire suppression
  • Rescue
  • Emergency medical services
  • Fire prevention services
  • Vegetation management
  • Public education
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Trauma support

The Fire Department currently has two (2) fire stations and a fire administration building. The Department operates the following emergency resources on a daily basis:

  • 2 - Fire Stations
  • 3 - Paramedic assessment engine companies
  • 1 - Paramedic assessment truck company
  • 2 - Paramedic transport ambulances (24 hour units)
  • 1 - Shift Battalion Chief

Santee-Lakeside Medical Services Authority (SLEMSA) - This Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement is made and entered into by and between the City of Santee, a California charter city and municipal corporation, and Lakeside Fire Protection District, organized and existing under the Fire Protection District Law of 1987, Health and Safety Code section 13800 et seq. 

The Santee Fire Department also operates basic life support (BLS) units. These BLS units are staffed by emergency medical technicians and cover lower-intensity medical calls.

Department Organization

The Department is organized into three divisions:

Administrative: Finance, human resources, professional standards, information management, fleet and facilities support, grants, special programs and EMS billing.

Emergency Services: Incident response operations, training and safety, emergency medical services, emergency preparedness, communications and special operations.

Fire Prevention: Plan review, business inspections, public education, vegetation management, fire investigation, community programs, water supply and pre-fire planning.

Our Beginnings

The Santee Fire Department was first established in 1956 as a County Fire Protection District serving a population of 10,000. Shortly after the City incorporated in 1980, the Fire Department became a Municipal City Department. Today, we serve a population of 60,000 and cover over 16.5 square miles.
